Check "sleep in a caboose" off your bucket list at HI-Shuswap Lake, one of BC's favourite summer spots. Borrow a canoe for a paddle on the lake, grab a self-guided hiking kit (including binoculars) and explore by foot or just lounge lakeside and take in some sunshine. The on-site general store will keep you fully stocked in the meantime.

Great Canadian Road Trip Tips

HI hostels  are all over the country at ideal stopping points. With a hostel, you’ll get a comfy place to sleep, kitchen facilities to help you feed yourself while sticking to a budget, hot showers and you’ll still get to meet other backpackers along the way (and maybe pick up a new passenger), which is a heck of a lot better than trying to sleep in your car.
