How big are the dorm rooms?
We have four different sizes of dorm rooms:

  • 2-bed Dorm: One bunk-bed, sleeps two people. Includes a sink
  • 4-bed Dorm: Two bunk beds, sleeps four people. Includes a sink
  • 6-bed Dorm: Three bunk-beds, sleeps six.
  • 8-bed Dorm: Four bunk-beds, sleeps eight.

Are there lockers in the rooms or on the premises?
Each dorm room has one large locker per bed. Dorm rooms and private rooms lock with keycard access.

Is luggage and sports gear storage available?
We have a free locked storage space available for your luggage before check-in and after check-out during your stay.

What will we find in the shared kitchen?
Our fully equipped kitchen is available for all guests including groups. The kitchen has eight cooking elements plus a toaster-oven, microwave, two large fridges, a stand-alone freezer and dry-food lockers. We also provide all necessary cookware, dishes, mugs & glasses, and cutlery. You just need to bring your own groceries! Our Kitchen is closed from 11 PM to 6 AM.

Do you have a BBQ?
We have an outdoor BBQ available for all guests to use.

Do you have a meeting room our group can use?
Yes, our meeting room has space for up to about 25 people depending on the configuration and can be booked as part of your group stay reservation.

What are your quiet hours?
We respectfully ask guests to keep the noise down between 11 PM and 7 AM.

Is catering available?
HI Edmonton has no on-site restaurant/café. However, catering arranged by the group can be brought into the hostel. We can recommend some options.

Do you offer free breakfast?
No, we don’t offer a full breakfast, but we do provide free coffee & tea all day long and free instant oatmeal & nutri-grain bars from 7 AM to 11 AM.

Is there free parking? What about for buses?
We have a free parking lot at the rear of the hostel, accessible from the alley. It is available on a first-come, first-served basis. There is also free public parking on the street out front of the hostel. There is no bus parking on site - we recommend buses to use the Indigo parking located at a 10-minute walk from the hostel.

Is there public transit or a shuttle service nearby?
There is a number of bus options to get to other parts of the city just one block from the hostel. There is an LRT train station at the University of Alberta, which can be connected to via one of those buses. Plus, Sundog Transportation offers transport with pick up and drop off at the hostel with prior booking.

Are there gender-inclusive washrooms available?
Yes, we have two gender-inclusive washrooms – one on each side of the hostel on the lower levels. The one on the East side also has a shower. And there is a private washroom on the main floor.

Is there 24-hour check-in and security?
Our front desk is staffed 24 hours a day. If you expect to arrive late, please let us know ahead of time. We have a nightly security company that does property rounds between 11 PM and 7 AM.

Is a deposit required?
A 20% deposit is required at the time of booking. A 50% deposit is required if the reservation involves booking at least 50% of the hostel or 50 beds. During the Calgary Stampede and special events, all bookings require a 50% deposit.

What are your cancellation policies?
Cancellations made more than 28 days prior to your arrival date will receive a full refund. Cancellations made 28 days or less before check-in will forfeit the deposit. Cancellations made 21 days or less before check-in are non-refundable.

Are there age limits for the groups that stay with you?
There are no age limits for groups staying with us; however, youth groups must be properly chaperoned.

What are the minimum and maximum group sizes?
Groups must consist of at least 10 people. The maximum group size and length of stay may vary depending on the time of year.

Is there a discount for group bookings?
Generally, groups are offered the member rate, though this may vary based on group size and time of year.

What health and safety measures are in place at the hostel?
All HI Canada hostels comply with health measures imposed by local, provincial and federal regulations. For more information on our hostel safety measures, read our hostel safety measures.

Is there a surcharge for single occupancy?
Dorm rooms are priced based on the total number of beds in the room. Even if beds are left empty, the full room fee applies. Private rooms are priced for double occupancy, with no surcharge for single occupancy.

Group Reservations Terms & Conditions

Hostelling International has extensive experience working with groups and we understand that groups need flexibility with their bookings. Please carefully review the following booking and cancellation policies to ensure a worry and problem free experience during your visit with us. These are HI Canada's standard group policies and apply unless otherwise stated in your group stay agreement.

1. Reservation

A quotation and accommodation agreement will be sent to you for review.

This must be signed and returned to Hostelling International to confirm your reservation.

A 20% deposit at the time of booking is required to secure your reservation.

A 50% deposit is required if your reservation is for more than 50% of hostel beds.

The remaining balance is payable 28 days prior to check-in. Signing this document confirms that you accept the standard group cancellation policies.

2. Confirmation

Once your signed quotation has been received we will send you confirmation of your reservation.

The deposit is due at the time you make your reservation.

The Groups Reservation Agent will confirm payment of the deposit and charge the credit card on file, unless deposit is being made by cheque which is then due within 14 days of reservation, otherwise the credit card on file will be charged.

3. Payment

The deposit is due when booking is made.

Your reservation must be prepaid in FULL 28 days prior to the group's arrival at the hostel.

Payments by Visa, MasterCard, or cheque (Canadian currency) are accepted. Bank transfers are also available upon request.

4. Group Rooming List

Fourteen (14) days prior to arrival, the group rooming list is also due. The list should specify first and last names, gender, and any specific rooming requests.

Hostelling International will provide the group with a rooming list form to be completed at least fourteen (14) days prior to group's check-in date.

5. Cancellations & Changes

Groups may cancel up to 28 days in advance of check-in with no penalty.

Cancellations within 28 days forfeit the deposit.

Cancellations made 14 days or less before check-in date are 100% non-refundable.

A maximum of 10% reduction in group size is acceptable fourteen (14) days prior to the date of arrival. any request to increase the group size will be accommodated, subject to availability.

Hostelling International reserves the right to cancel any reservations not paid in full 28 days in advance.

No shows will not receive a refund. We will hold the booking for the duration of the reservation, provided that payment has already been received as required.
