How big are the dorm rooms?
We have five different configurations of dorm rooms:
- 2-bed Dorm: One bunk-bed, sleeps two people. (80 sq.ft.)
- 4-bed Dorm: Two bunk beds, sleeps four people. (206 sq.ft)
- 4-Bed Dorm Ensuite: Two bunk beds, sleeps four people. Includes an ensuite bathroom. (228 sq.ft.)
- 6-bed Dorm: Three bunk-beds, sleeps six. (178 sq.ft to 201 sq.ft.)
- 8-bed Dorm: Four bunk-beds, sleeps eight. (268 sq.ft.)
Are there lockers in the rooms or on the premises?
Each dorm room has one large individual locker per bed. Dorm rooms and private rooms lock with keycard access.
Is luggage storage available?
Free luggage storage is available if needed for early arrivals or late departures. We also offer paid luggage storage for those exploring the Maritimes and wanting to leave behind extra bags.
What will we find in the shared kitchen?
Our fully equipped kitchen is available for all guests including groups. The kitchen has eight cooking elements, two ovens, a microwave, two large commercial fridges, and dry-food storage with baskets. We also provide all necessary cookware, dishes, mugs & glasses, and cutlery. You just need to bring your own groceries!
Do you have a BBQ?
We have an outdoor BBQ available for all guests to use.
What are your quiet hours?
We respectfully ask guests to keep the noise down between 11 PM and 7 AM.
Do you have a meeting room our group can use?
The hostel doesn't have a dedicated meeting room, but groups are welcome to use the hostel's common spaces, including the lounge and the rooftop patio. The rooftop patio is available for private use with prior arrangements made through the hostel.
Is catering available?
HI Halifax has no on-site restaurant/café. However, catering arranged by the group can be brought into the hostel.
Do you offer free breakfast?
No, we don’t offer breakfast, but free coffee and tea are available all day.
Is there free parking? What about for buses?
No, the hostel does not have on-site parking, but there is street parking out front of the hostel (free from 6 PM to 8 AM and on weekends). There is no on-site bus parking available. We recommend buses park at the nearby Superstore parking lot.
Is there public transit or a shuttle service nearby?
The Via Rail station and the Maritimes Bus station are just 5 minutes away from the hostel. Plus, we’re located right in the heart of downtown Halifax, with easy access to all major Halifax Metro Bus routes.
Are there gender-inclusive washrooms available?
Yes, we do offer gender-free washrooms.
Is there 24-hour check-in and security?
Our front desk is staffed 24 hours a day. If you expect to arrive late, please let us know ahead of time.
Is a deposit required?
A 20% deposit is required at the time of booking. A 50% deposit is required if the reservation involves booking at least 50% of the hostel or 50 beds.
What are your cancellation policies?
Cancellations made more than 28 days prior to your arrival date will receive a full refund. Cancellations made 28 days or less before check-in will forfeit the deposit. Cancellations made 21 days or less before check-in are non-refundable.
Are there age limits for the groups that stay with you?
There are no age limits for groups staying with us; however, youth groups must be properly chaperoned.
What are the minimum and maximum group sizes?
Groups must consist of at least 10 people. The maximum group size and length of stay may vary depending on the time of year.
Is there a discount for group bookings?
Generally, groups are offered the member rate, though this may be tailored to your group based on group size and time of year.
What health and safety measures are in place at the hostel?

Is there a surcharge for single occupancy?
Dorm rooms are priced based on the total number of beds in the room. Even if beds are left empty, the full room fee applies. Private rooms are priced for double occupancy, with no surcharge for single occupancy.
