Policies

What are the room types and sizes available to groups?
Each of our dorm rooms sleeps four or six people in bunk beds. Some include a two-piece WC (toilet and sink) and the rest have shared washrooms located nearby. There is a limited selection of private rooms available, with and without ensuite washrooms. Two private cabins on the premises offer two double beds and an ensuite, sitting area and fireplace. Images of all room types can be found on our hostel webpage.

Are there lockers in the rooms?
There is at least one locker per dorm bed in the rooms with a power outlet. We also have a larger locked storage room and a separate locked storage for skis and snowboards. These can be used prior to check-in if you want to get out and enjoy your day!

Is luggage and sports gear storage available?
We have storage space available for your luggage before check-in and after check-out.

Do you have a BBQ?
We have a BBQ available for guest use during the summer months.

Is there a fire pit?
No, we don't offer a fire pit for guest use.

Do you have a meeting room our group can use?
Yes, we have a meeting room available for groups with a comfortable capacity for up to 20 people.

How far is the hostel from the ski lifts?
We are fortunate to have three local ski hills:

  • Norquay is visible from town and is only a 10-minute drive from the hostel.
  • Sunshine Village is a 20-minute drive, followed by a 20-minute gondola to reach the lifts.
  • Lake Louise is a 50-minute drive to the base area and its lifts.

What will we find in the shared kitchen?
Our shared kitchens include: cooktops, ovens, sinks, air friers, microwaves, toasters, kettles, cookware, dishes and cutlery. We also have plentiful food storage with fridges, freezers and dry storage space. You just need to supply the food.

Is catering available?
Yes! We can provide catering for groups through our on-site restaurant.

Do you offer free breakfast?
We do not offer free breakfast, but we serve breakfast at our on-site cafe Cougar Pete's. Catering options may be available depending on group requests.

Is there free parking? What about for buses?
The hostel has free parking available on site, which can accommodate buses only with prior notice.

Is there public transit or a shuttle service nearby?
Yes! We are a very short walk from our local bus stop that accesses downtown Banff. We also provide guests of our hostel with a free 3 day bus pass that allows you to ride buses in Banff an unlimited amount of times in those 3 days.

What are your quiet hours?
We respectfully ask guests to keep the noise down between 11 pm and 7 am.

What times are the front desk available?
Our front desk is available 24 hours a day. If you expect to arrive late, please let us know ahead of time

Are there activities or things to do within walking distance?
Within our hostel vicinity there are several hiking and mountain biking trails for a range of abilities. We are also only a short downhill walk from downtown Banff.

Is a deposit required?
A twenty (20%) percent deposit is required at the time of booking. A fifty (50%) percent deposit is required if reservation involves booking at least fifty (50%) percent of the hostel or fifty (50) hostel beds.

What are your cancellation policies?
Cancellations received more than 28 days prior to your arrival date will receive a full refund. Cancellations made within 14 to 28 days before check-in forfeit the deposit. Cancellations made 14 days or less before check-in date are non-refundable.

Are there age limits for the groups that stay with you?
There are no age limits for groups that stay with us, however youth groups must be properly chaperoned.

Is there a discount for group bookings?
Generally groups are offered the member rate, but this may vary depending on the group size, time of year and each property.

What are the minimum and maximum group sizes?
Groups must consist of at least 10 people. Very large groups can be accommodated on a case-by-case basis, though we've hosted groups of up to 120 people. Groups are able to book out the entire Mary Belle Barclay building, which includes its own lobby, kitchen and meeting area and sleeps up to 70 guests.

What health and safety measures are in place at the hostel?
All HI Canada hostels comply with health measures imposed by local, provincial and federal regulations. For more information on our hostel safety measures, read our hostel safety measures.

Is there a surcharge for single occupancy?
Dorm rooms are priced by the room based on the total number of beds in the room. If you wish to leave beds empty, you still must pay the full room fee. Some hostels offer discounted private dorm rates at certain times of the year. Private rooms are priced based on double occupancy and there is no single surcharge.
