Living & Working at

HI Vancouver Jericho Beach

Live life at the beach!

This Vancouver hostel is open in the summer from May to September, with Jericho Beach, Locarno Beach and Spanish Banks just minutes away. It's located in beautiful parkland near forest trails and seaside paths on Vancouver's Westside, not far from UBC yet downtown is still only 20 minutes away. There's an on-site restaurant and the Jericho Beach Sailing Centre is nearby. Working at HI VJB is a great way to meet new friends and live in an amazing city. Subsidized housing is available in our staff dorm, and you're welcome to borrow bikes and other sporting goods (tennis racquets for the free nearby courts, or get a game of bocce ball or volleyball going!)

The Central Reservations office is attached to HI Vancouver Jericho Beach. We operate year-round, helping guests with reservations at hostels across HI Canada Pacific Mountain Region. HI CRS staff enjoy many of the same perks as the hostel staff, including the option of subsidized staff housing.

Live your best life

in Vancouver

Vancouver has a ton to offer! For outdoor enthusiasts there are beaches galore with spectacular views and sunsets, including our home beach of Jericho Beach and the connected beaches of Locarno and Spanish Banks. Jericho Beach Park connects to Pacific Spirit Regional Park, which is lined with hiking trails and stretches all the way to the University of British Columbia campus. Foodies will discover all kinds of restaurants, and culture-seekers can find galleries, theatres and museums, some dedicated to the rich Indigenous cultures of our West Coast First Nations. Compete in the annual Vancouver Tourism Challenge in May (for tourism workers) and get free access to many of the area's attractions.

HIKING

It's not hard to get out on a hike in Vancouver, especially right from HI Vancouver Jericho Beach. The densely forested Pacific Spirit Regional Park is near the hostel and has over 54 kilometres of hiking trails through its 800 hectares. You could also hop on the bus and get to lots of other hikes around the city including Stanley Park and Grouse Mountain.

BEACHES

Vancouver nails the ocean-mountain combo and HI Vancouver Jericho Beach makes the most of it. Jericho Beach is actually one of ten urban beaches in the city core and one of three along this stretch of coastline. Stroll a little further and you'll hit Locarno Beach and Spanish Banks, or head out by bike and cycle the Seawall to find Kitsilano Beach and the beaches of the West End.

KITSILANO

Our hostel sits within the Kitsilano neighbourhood, a trendy and historic hood in Vancouver's West Side, between downtown Vancouver and UBC. This neighbourhood is home to both Greenpeace and Lululemon, and maintains much of that vibe in its eclectic collection of shops, cafés, restaurants and community services, never too far from the beach.

DOWNTOWN VANCOUVER

The city's bustling downtown core is an easy 20-minute bus ride away. Downtown you'll find the vibrant entertainment district on Granville Street, the colourful West End neighbourhood and historic Gastown. There are a ton of restaurants, shops, museums and attractions to choose from, plus the Seabus to the North Shore and the SkyTrain to the airport and greater Vancouver.
