Hello, staff!

We’re excited to share that HI Banff is again a signatory to the Bow Valley Workplace Inclusion Charter, as part of the Bow Valley Immigration Partnership initiative. The charter lists specific, practical actions to help us make HI Banff a more welcoming and inclusive place to work.

More Diversity

Updating our gender-neutral restroom signage for staff and guests, which contributes to our larger goal of expanding the ways in which we foster diversity, openness, and acceptance.

More Community

Creating a centralized location for helpful resources, programs, and free stuff! Find this all on the “community hub” board in the back office.

More Equality

Making sure job applicants are aware they can request helpful accommodations throughout the hiring process. This is just one facet to equal opportunity, or “pro-diversity” initiatives HI Canada has striven towards since its inception.

We are committed to supporting all members of our diverse team and helping to make Banff a welcoming community for all. Our Workplace Inclusion Charter is an enduring commitment that will focus on helping you make both the hostel and Banff a place you can call home. Even if your original intention was to arrive here, enjoy the outdoors and make new friends, it doesn’t take long to realize our little community on Tunnel Mountain is a singular experience. Feeling truly settled in may include needing access to resources in your native language, finding healthcare, or support in pursuing permanent residency.

By working together to highlight inclusion in our workplace, together we can achieve tangible, positive change. To meet our commitments by December 1st, 2025, we will develop and implement an action plan, assign responsibilities to key staff (Josh and Jimmy), and share a progress update before the end of the month. These include updates to our goals we completed last year:

1. Communication: Our “Hello Locals” community hub in the back office.

2. Community Connection: Links to Settlement Services during your orientation, and now on the hub.

3. Policy or Procedure: Updated signage for gender-neutral toilet facilities.

4. Training: Helpful accommodations during the hiring process as outlined in our job ads.
