Non-PM Region Members : Amalgamation FAQ

The goal of amalgamating HI Canada and HI Canada - Pacific Mountain Region was to unify a strategic partnership between allied Associations to further Hostelling International’s mission to build a community of conscious travellers who share a greater understanding of people, places and cultures through hostelling.

There are many!  

The amalgamation process made official a strategic partnership that has been in place for decades between both Associations.

So while amalgamation does not change our focus, operating with a single Board of Directors streamlines the vision for hostelling in Canada.   

It also allows us to reduce costs by functioning with one central office and leadership team, simplifying our operational processes for greater efficiency and efficacy.    

Currently, only those with a valid Hostelling International membership card that reside in one of the following provinces or territories are voting members of HI Canada: 

• British Columbia 
• Alberta 
• Saskatchewan 
• Manitoba 
• Yukon Territories 
• Northwest Territories 
• Nunavut 

All valid HI members residing in Canada but outside of the Pacific Mountain Region are now invited join the newly formed HI Canada organization and take part in the governance of HI Canada. We hope you’ll join us.

In the meantime, we hope you continue to enjoy over 3,000 hostels in 90 countries and many discounts worldwide.

By becoming a voting member of the Canadian Hostelling Association, you have an opportunity to add your voice to continue our core mission to build a community of conscious travellers and further the hostelling movement in Canada. 

You also become eligible to run for the Board of Directors and help set the Association’s strategic direction and priorities.

Valid Hostelling International cardholders residing in Ontario, Quebec and the Atlantic provinces will receive a special email invitation to join the Canadian Hostelling Association.
