Alberta Travel Advisory

Alberta Travel Alert

Severe weather and heavy rainfall have caused flooding in many parts of Southern Alberta.  Areas affected include Calgary City Centre, Canmore and Kananaskis Country.

For safety reasons, highway closures or flooding we have had to close the following hostels until further notice. We have assessed the damage and started restoration on HI-Calgary City Centre, however due to the severity of the damage we are unable to give you an estimated opening date.

HI-Castle Mountain has had to temporarily close due to some minor damage from recent floods. We plan to reopen on July 7, 2013 but please check back here for updates or follow us @hostelscanada on twitter.

Banff and Lake Louise were not affected.

We are happy to report that all other hostels in Alberta and British Columbia remain open but we recommend you check travel conditions first before setting off. The Trans Canada HWY 1 is now open for all traffic from Calgary to Banff and beyond. Traffic is still moving slowly due to a decrease in usable lanes. Consider detouring through Nordegg and the Icefield Parkway as the Trans canada will be quite congested for the weekend and the detour is a very pleasing route. Go to our blog for more details regarding the detour click here >>.  Please drive with care.
If you need to use public transportation please check with our local transportation providers in the area; Greyhound, Brewsters, Discover Banff Tours, Moose Travel Network, The Banff Airporter, or Banff Transportion Group.

The following websites will give you the most updated information on travel in Alberta. We will also be posting latest hostel reopening news on Twitter @hostelscanada.  Reservation information is also posted below.
