City of Calgary wins
the 2014 HI-Canada Partner of the Year Award
Halifax, Nova Scotia - June 7, 2014 -
Hostelling International-Canada (HI-Canada) is proud to announce that its members have named the City of Calgary its Partner of the Year. Award winner and finalists are recognized at the HI-Canada National General Meeting, the organization's annual gathering of regional partners, on June 7-10 in Halifax.
Calgary city counsellor Druh Farrell (Ward 7 Councillor) praised the city's staff for what they did to earn the HI-C Partner of the Year Award: "Congratulations to the City staff for this recognition of your fierce commitment to the residents and visitors to the City of Calgary. This award is richly deserved and we are so very proud."
The National Awards Program recognizes the many ways in which HI-Canada receives valuable support from key partners in their work to make a difference in the world. This is achieved through the fostering of respect for Canada's unique identity, diverse cultural heritage, and environmental resources.
This year's winner was selected by 32% percent of the 2,597 votes received from HI-Canada's online invitation to its members. The winner is selected based on partners' commitment to enriching and facilitating travel experiences, adding value to local communities, and minimizing the negative impact on the earth and its residents.
"Congratulations to the City of Calgary, the 2014 HI-Canada Partner of the Year Award winner. Their compassion, professionalism and neighbourliness ensured the safety and security of our guests, staff and property after heavy rains caused major flooding in June 2013. I also congratulate the other three finalists: City of Campbellton, Steam Whistle Brewing, and Tofino Bus. Each of these local partners have demonstrated a unique approach and exceptional dedication to enhancing the experiences of our members and hostel guests," said Joël Marier, National Executive Director of HI-Canada. "The efforts and expertise of these outstanding partners continue to bring incredible value to our Association and to youth travel as a whole. We are honoured to recognize their success. I would also like to thank our members and guests for their help with selecting a winner from the four deserving finalists. We always rely on our strong community of travellers for their feedback and suggestions."
